Amnitec Chooses Union Closed Solvent Cleaning System for Flexible Hose Production
Amnitec Ltd, part of the United Flexible group and a leading manufacturer of flexible hoses, has upgraded its cleaning technology with a Union MDMV2 closed solvent cleaning machine. Based in Abercanaid near Merthyr Tydfil, Amnitec provides high-performance, bespoke hose solutions for fluid and gas transfer in extreme environments.
With a focus on product cleanliness and reliability, Amnitec identified the need to replace its aging vapor degreasing system. Seeking expert advice, the company turned to D&S Ultra-Clean Ltd, who recommended the Union MDMV2 system integrated with ultrasonics and vacuum drying, and running on DOWPER™ MC, a highly stabilized perchloroethylene solvent supplied by SAFECHEM.
“Cleanliness is critical to product performance, especially with the complex internal structures of our hoses,”
said Andrew Satterthwaite, Technical Manager at Amnitec.
“D&S’s cleaning trials proved the system could meet our expectations—delivering exceptional cleaning and drying without compromising throughput.”
Initial concerns about solvent retention and regulatory compliance were quickly addressed. The machine’s vacuum drying system ensured components emerged fully dry, and the SAFE-TAINER™ system from SAFECHEM enabled safe, closed-loop solvent handling. Together, these innovations ensured compliance with REACH and environmental standards, while simplifying solvent logistics and minimizing operator exposure.
“Solvent use has dropped dramatically, workplace safety has improved, and the installation was well-received by local authorities,” Satterthwaite added.
“We’d strongly recommend D&S Ultra-Clean, Union cleaning systems, and SAFECHEM to any business facing similar cleaning challenges.”
Derek Thomas, Managing Director at D&S Ultra-Clean, commented:
“Amnitec is a great example of how investing in the right closed cleaning technology pays off. Union systems offer unmatched performance, and when paired with the SAFE-TAINER™ solvent management system, they represent best available technology for sustainable solvent cleaning.”
